The court was forced to take the decision since lawyers were boycotting the courts in protest against Wednesday’s bomb blast at the Delhi High Court, in which 12 persons lost their lives.

The former Karnataka Tourism Minister was arrested by CBI sleuths in an early morning swoop at his residence in Bellary on Monday along with Srinivas Reddy in connection with a case relating to illegal mining in Andhra Pradesh. The duo was then brought to Hyderabad the same day and were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by the CBI Special Court.

Counsel for the accused in the illegal mining case sought adjournment till Monday stating that their senior colleagues were not available because they were attending to some cases in the Supreme Court.

They also argued that the lawyers at the Nampally Criminal Courts were staying away from work.

Public prosecutor Balla Ravindranath, however, opposed adjournment till Monday in view of the serious nature of the case, and Judge B Nagamurthi Sharma agreed with him and adjourned the hearing to Friday. The CBI also filed its counter to the bail petition of the two accused and arguments on these are likely to be heard on Friday.
