Unveiling the name of his new party as 'Pak Sarzamin Party', dissident Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday said he would unite the people of Pakistan to build a welfare state.
The name of the newly-formed political party had been much-awaited since it was launched earlier this month. Since its inception, several former MQM leaders have joined Kamal's party which was yet to be named until Wednesday.
"It should be clear in the minds of all those becoming a part of this caravan that we have not come here to snatch away someone's power," Kamal said while addressing the gathering in Karachi's Clifton neighbourhood.
"All of us already had power and positions, but we threw away these privileges for the sake of the people," he said.
Talking about his party's leader Iftikhar Alam, he said that Alam left the seat of parliament and joined us after listening to my Press conference although we had not been in contact for months.
"I want to tell this to all Pakistanis that I have not come here to gain privileges but to serve," he said.
Critcising existing political parties for having party flags, Kamal said his party will not have any, and would rather hand over the flag of Pakistan to workers. The manifesto of the new party is being drafted by several gifted intellectuals which would be announced soon, he said.
"We know that the Election Commission of Pakistan will ask for a separate party flag and we will give them that. But we will not use it, will not hoist it on our houses. Instead, we will use the flag of our country."
