Kerala local body polls on November 2 and 5

 Kerala State Election Commission on Saturday announced a two-phase poll schedule for 941 village panchayats, 152 block panchayats, 86 municipalities and six city corporations in the state next month.
According to the schedule declared by State Election Commissioner K Sasidharan Nair, Trivandrum, Quilon, Idukki, Calicut, Kannur, Kasargod and Wayanad districts will go to polls on November 2.
The poll in the remaining seven districts of Palghat, Malapapuram, Trichur, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Aleppey will be held on November 5. The notification for the election will be issued on October 7.
The last date for receiving nomination will be October 14 and withdrawal October 17. Sasidharan Nair said that the counting of votes will be held on November 7. Sasidharan Nair said that the newly elected bodies will come into force by November 17. There will be 35000 polling booths spread over 21871 wards.
The model code of conduct for political parties and media has come into effect from Saturday. Political parties attach much importance to the local body polls as it sets the tone for the assembly election to be held early next year.
