The Congresss-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government is planning to take its battle against liquor and drugs to the next level by setting up a de-addiction institute.
The state-of-the-art institute proposed by the Excise Department is aimed at coordinating de-addictions programmes being run by various agencies across the state. The facility will come at the Excise Academy campus in Trichur district.
The programme will be part of the 'Subodham' project launched by the government to help people in the state to overcome alcohol, drug and other substance abuse in the wake of closure of all bars below five-star category and 10 per cent retail outlets every year under the partial prohibition drive launched by the government.
