Trivandrum: In the first case related to Daesh in Kerala, Malappuram Police on Wednesday registered a case against a man for allegedly trying to recruit youths into the terror outfit.
A first information report (FIR) in this regard was registered at the Karipur police station in the district on the basis of intelligence reports. The youth, who has been identified as Riyabul Rehman, a native of Calicut, had tried to attract youths towards the Daesh through social media.
Reports said that the youth who was living abroad had propagated the Daesh ideology through a group he formed in April 2014. He is said to have joined the Daesh and is reportedly in Syria. Malappuram district Superintendent of Police Debesh Kumar Behra said that an investigation was on into his whereabouts and activities.
Some of the Keralites who were deported from abroad recently, were in his contact list.
Four of them had arrived at Trivandrum and Karipur airport on Tuesday. They were released after interrogation as the intelligence could not find any evidence regarding their alleged links with Daesh.
Intelligence officials believe that two of them had shown some inclination towards the Daesh ideology following indoctrination by Riyabul, but they said they had no intention to join or support the terror group. They were let off after they were debriefed and counselled by the intelligence agencies.
