Kuwait takes over presidency of OIC group from Saudi Arabia

Kuwait is keen on serving the causes of the Islamic nation “guided by the noble teachings of Islam and the OIC charter, says Mansour Al Otaibi

New York - The State of Kuwait has assumed the presidency of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, member states’ group at the United Nations, from Saudi Arabia.
The Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, quoted Ambassador Mansour Al Otaibi, Kuwait’s Permanent Delegate at the UN, as saying that Kuwait is keen on serving the causes of the Islamic nation “guided by the noble teachings of Islam and the OIC charter, which would achieve solidarity among its members and secure its common interests in the international arena.”
During the handing over meeting on Monday at the UN Headquarters in New York, Al Otaibi noted that the idea of openness and tolerance among peoples was a human necessity called for by all faiths, referring to the 42nd OIC Foreign Ministers’ meeting that was hosted by Kuwait last May and resulted in the ‘Kuwait Declaration’, which stressed that fighting terrorism and religious extremism would not be achieved through fighting Islam, but by cooperation and dialogue.
Al Otaibi hoped that outcomes of the meeting in Kuwait would become a “beacon for our group and means to make us aware of major dangers and challenges faced by our Islamic world, especially the handling of the Palestinian cause.”
