Let states have own land laws, says KCR

Hyderabad - The Telangana chief minister says it becomes difficult to meet the demands of society if the centre imposes an act on the states.

Telangana, the newest state in India, has sought a free hand to states to frame their own land laws to promote industrialisation in the wake of the logjam over the contentious land acquisition bill in parliament.
The idea was mooted by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during an interactive session with industry representatives ahead of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Council meet here.
"In a federal system, it is always better for States to have their own acts. It becomes difficult to meet the demands of society if the centre imposes an act on the states. Put it out of your clutch," Rao said.
Telangana, which became the 29th State of the Indian Union last year, is determined to promote industrial development with the help of a pro-active policy and hassle-free clearances.
Promising that setting up industries in Telangana would be a hassle-free experience for the investors, KCR, as the chief minister is known, said that a principal secretary was specially appointed in his office to track the developments with regard to industrial clearances on a daily basis.
"I am personally following the clearance process very keenly and cautiously. The special officer for the purpose in the chief minister's office (CMO) keeps me informed everyday about the current position of industrial clearances," the chief minister said.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi government had unveiled its industrial policy in June, promising for the first time, 'right to timely clearances' to ensure transparent and hassle-free permissions for industrial projects.
