Islamabad - Political rivals of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) have decided to raise the issue of deseating PTI members 'vigorously' in the coming session of the National Assembly which will begin after Eid Al Fitr.
Leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) have told Dawn that they will forcefully pursue the issue in the lower house of parliament where the two parties have already filed separate but identical motions regarding de-seating of PTI members.
According to the parliamentary calendar, the next session of the assembly is scheduled to commence on July 27, but President Mamnoon Hussain can summon the session anytime before that date.
"We filed the motion in April and it could not be entertained due to the budget session, but it must be taken up in the next session," MQM leader and mover of the motion Dr Farooq Sattar said.
Meanwhile, the PTI has announced the party's lawmakers will return the salaries for the period they boycotted the National Assembly sessions.
Addressing the media after a party meeting in Islamabad PTI Chairman Imran Khan said the salaries received by the legislators during the time they were absent from the National Assembly during the 126-day-long sit-in in Islamabad would be deposited back with the government.
After a seven-month absence, the party returned to the National Assembly fold in April this year after the government accepted its demand for setting up a judicial commission to probe rigging allegations.
