Muttahida protests against PA adjournment

KARACHI - The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday strongly protested outside the Sindh Assembly after the assembly session was adjourned after a few minutes’ proceedings until February 27.

Expressing their anger at the treasury benches, MQM legislators told newsmen that the session was adjourned only to prevent Muttahida from raising the issue of Hyderabad university on the floor of the house.

They said the move was made with ulterior motives.

On the occasion, MQM’s Faisal Sabzwari claimed that the hasty adjournment was an insult and a mockery of the Sindh Assembly and clearly exposed the ruling party’s intentions.

He further said that a bill for setting up of six universities were approved by the Sindh Assembly with the full support of MQM, while the Hyderabad University issue was being evaded for one reason or the other.

However, a treasury bench lawmaker told newsmen that the there was no ulterior motive behind adjournment of the session as claimed by the MQM but lack of quorum.

Meanwhile, MQM supporters again on Monday protested in Karachi and other major cities and towns of the province over the remarks by Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq against setting up a university in Hyderabad.
