Quetta: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved on Thursday the launch of 'peaceful Balochistan' plan to bring angry Balochs back into the mainstream.
The approval was given at the special apex committee meeting held in Quetta, which was attended by army chief General Raheel Sharif, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, among others.
The apex committee meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the insurgency-hit province, the 'peaceful Balochistan' programme and progress on the National Action Plan.
Sharif also performed the groundbreaking ceremony of three development projects, including Mangi Dam, Balochistan Agriculture University and a flyover on Smungli Road. The Mangi Dam project will be completed at a cost of Rs9.8 billion, Smungli Road Flyover will need Rs1.5 billion and Agricultural University Rs4.58 billion for completion.
The premier also inaugurated Sariab Road flyover, which was completed at a cost of Rs1.5 billion.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that Balochistan would be a major beneficiary of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the project would open new avenues of development and prosperity for Pakistan.
"Gwadar's deep sea port would link the land-locked Central Asian states with the rest of the world, and will attract massive amounts of local and foreign investment," said the prime minister.
