Om Puri gets bail

Actor Om Puri, who had allegedly gone missing after his wife filed a case of domestic violence against him at a Mumbai police station, was granted anticipatory bail by a local court on Wednesday.

Denying charges that he had thrashed his wife Nandita, with a stick last Friday, Puri told the media that he was in Kolkata all these days and there was no question of his beating her or absconding. The actor blamed his wife for all the problems, accusing her of being very demanding. According to him, Nandita likes to holiday abroad every year, but being a character actor, he could not afford to lavish money on her trips, unlike some other superstars. Last week, Nandita lodged a complaint against the actor, accusing him of beating her with a stick. When officers from the Versova police station went to their flat, they did not find the actor at home. The police felt he had gone missing.

Nandita is the 63-year-old actor’s second wife and they have had a stormy relationship over the past few years.

The two have a son and the actor claims that he does not want to discuss his personal problems in public as he wants to protect the kid.
