Several passengers aboard a plane to Manchester, Britain, vomited and passed out after being stranded on Lanzarote airport runway for three hours. The heat and smell of aviation fuel led to panic attacks among the 300 passengers on the Thomas Cook jet as they waited for take-off.
According to Metro.uk report, a passenger said there was no air-condition on the plane and no water in the sweltering heat. Bekki Reece, who was travelling with her boyfriend Shane Davies and her three young children, said, "After two hours my 12-year-old daughter was having nose bleeds and my 1-year-old daughter looked as though she had just got out the bath because she was dripping with sweat. Passengers were using their safety cards to fan her down. It was really scary," Reece, 32, said. The mother added that they opened the plane's doors but there was a lot of commotion and after about three hours a young girl fainted.
However, shortly after midnight passengers were finally allowed to get off the plane as under the law in Lanzarote flights are not allowed to take off after midnight. Stranded passengers were offered a hotel for the night and Reece said her mother, who booked the holiday, has been offered 400 Euros and £100 compensation per person.
Meanwhile, Paul Hutchings, managing director of operations at Thomas Cook, said, "Flight MT1499 from Lanzarote to Manchester was delayed due to a technical issue and although all efforts were made to get customers on their way as soon as possible, it is clear to me that our customers endured unacceptable temperatures on board and for that I am very sorry."
