A special court in Pakistan sentenced Musharraf to death on December 17, in the high treason case against him.

>October 1999: Pervez Musharraf comes to power after ousting former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a bloodless coup.
>November 3 2007: Musharraf declares an emergency and suspends the 1973 Constitution, leaving 61 judges of the superior judiciary powerless and dysfunctional.
>November 29, 2007: He takes oath as a civilian president.
>December 15, 2007: Musharraf lifts the emergency. Chief justices and judges of the Supreme Court, high courts and federal Shariah Courts take a fresh oath.
>August 18, 2008: Musharraf finally resigns in the face of impeachment proceedings by the new governing coalition.
>July 22, 2009: SC calls Musharraf to defend his actions on November 3, 2007.
>July 31, 2009: The top court rules that his decision to impose an emergency, as well as his PCO were illegal and unconstitutional. The court gives him seven days to respond.
>March 24, 2013: The self-exiled former president returns to Pakistan to contest general elections but was barred from taking part in the polls.
>April 8, 2013: SC summons Musharraf in the treason case against him. The court directs the interior ministry to include his name to the Exit Control List.
>December 12, 2013: The Special court summons Musharraf to face treason charges.
>January 2, 2014: Musharraf is admitted to a hospital after he suffers heart problem while on his way to a special court hearing of the high treason case against him.
>March 16, 2016: SC removes Musharraf's name from the ECL, allowing him to travel abroad for treatment.
>November 19, 2019: The special court completes its proceedings in the treason case, saying that a ruling will be passed on November 28.
>November 27, 2019: The Islamabad High Court stops special court from announcing verdict in the treason case.
>December 2019: The special court says it will pass the judgement in the case on December 17. Musharraf moves the Lahore High Court to stay the trial at the special court.
>December 17, 2019: The special court sentences Musharraf to death in the high treason case against him.
