It was a terrifying flight for passengers aboard a Chinese airlines plane when a frenzied man tried to open emergency door mid-air.
According to reports in Mirror.co.uk, the man in his 50s, was on Fuzhou Airlines flight 6509 flying from Fuzhou to Kunming when he became agitated. He initially requested flight attendants to call his family about 40 minutes before the plane was to land. But when his request was not met, the man created ruckus and tried to open an emergency exit, flight security officer, Zhao Wenhui, told The Strait Metropolitan.
A mobile footage shows the man yelling and banging seats and the side of the plane as a flight attendant and other passengers tried to restrain him. Crew member, Cao Xinyue, said, "After that the man started pacing back and forth saying 'I want to parachute!' He kept saying he wanted to call his family. He tried to make a call on his phone but asked us to do it when his phone didn't work."
Passengers held the man down until the plane landed safely after which he was handed over to Kunming airport police. Flight attendant, Lu, said, "He tried to gouge my eyes. I'm taller than him so he didn't manage to reach, but my ear and nose were hurt and bleeding." The airline confirmed no other passengers were hurt. While police said the man was 'unwell' and hence was released without any charges pressed against him. His family apologised for the ordeal.
It is unclear, however, whether the man will receive a lifetime flying ban by China's aviation authority.
