Mobile diabetes unit
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, president of the Bahrain Diabetes Society and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI Bahrain) and Professor Sameer Otoom, which will allow the continued operation of the paediatric mobile diabetes unit.
An initial two-year pilot project imparted information about type II diabetes to over 1,200 primary children from government and private schools.
The mobile unit was donated to the Bahrain diabetes society by the rotary club. Both the Bahrain Diabetes Society and RCSI Bahrain are celebrating important milestones this year.
The Bahrain Diabetes Society is celebrating 25 years in Bahrain and RCSI Bahrain is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Bahraini researchers, teachers as well as public and private schools have been urged to showcase their talents with innovative and outstanding educational projects to vie for Khalifa Award for Education.
The general coordinator for award, Dr Saeed Al Yamani, said candidates have to comply with January 18, 2015 deadline to run for the eighth edition of the award which consists of 11 competitive fields. Dr Al Yamani lauded the role of the award in improving education in the Arab World, pointing out that the award has been successful in enriching the educational field and tapping on the creativity and innovative skills.
Induction meetings of the award and its fields will be held from September 16 to November 5.
Applications will be studied from January 18, 2015 to February 5 while evaluation procedures will take place from February 9 to March 23. Names of the winners will be announced in an ceremony in April 2015.
Six Sigma forum organised by BQS concludes
The Six Sigma forum which concluded last week called for applying excellence techniques at ministries as well as at the public and private sectors to improve the workings of the entities.
The two-day event, which was organised by Bahrain Quality Society (BQS) under the aegis of State Minister for Defence Affairs and BQS honorary president, Lieutenant-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, recommended holding a series of specialised workshops accredited by international parties to obtain the “green belt and the black belt”.
The forum called for enhancing the role of quality applications to boost the institutions’ competitive performance in terms of creativity, education, transparency.
It also called for achieving sustainable development and enhancing competitiveness of the national economy as a whole.
The forum also urged increasing awareness of decision makers in Bahrain of the need to optimise services in the public and private sectors and supporting companies in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
