The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the Islamic Personality of the Year of the 21st edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA)
Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and Head of DIHQA Organising Committee, made the announcement in a press conference late on Friday night at the Dubai Chamber.
"The Award has honoured a long list of esteemed Islamic characters and entities over the last 21 years in appreciation to their shiny records in serving Islam, Muslims and holy Quran worldwide."
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is of a well-known family highly acknowledged for long serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, and facilitating the Haj and Umrah affairs, he added.
"The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, with his tireless effort, great services in this regard, as well as his noble traits and stands, is on top of that list of historic leaders whom the Islamic nation is so proud of."
The honour of serving the Two Holy Mosques and sacred places for Muslims from across the globe was the most important of such exceptional services he assumed, he underlined.
"These are apart from his support to moderate and tolerant Islamic work that goes with the supreme tolerant goals of the Islamic Sharia and as directed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)."

The well-deserved honouring will definitely satisfy and bring happiness to the lovers of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, he noted.
Naming the King Salman the Islamic Personality of the Year is in recognition of his relentless efforts and orders to carry out the development projects of the Two Holy Mosques and sacred places as was the case with his brother kings, Bu Melha said.
"The holistic vision of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, as well as his care of the Two Holy Mosques, and his great interest in everything that makes it easier for pilgrims to perform their rites conveniently, let alone his interest in the Prophet noble biography."
The establishment of the King Abdulaziz Center for Waqf Libraries in Madinah to preserve the Arab and Islamic heritage was amongst his major achievements, he pointed out. "His constant efforts to unify the Arabs and Muslims to brave the challenges and circumstances that afflict the Arab and Islamic nations speak volume."
He has directly chaired and supervised a number of charitable societies for relieving the afflicted and needy people in the Arab and Islamic countries and the whole world, Bu Melha said.
"He has also established the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, generously supported affected and needy people in Arab and Islamic countries and worldwide. The charitable and humanitarian activities of King Salman are hard to count as he still provides support to all disaster-hit countries, especially Islamic countries."

King Salman bin Abdulaziz profile

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was born on the 5th of the lunar month of Shawwal 1354 H, corresponding to December 31, 1935 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Education
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received his early education at the Princes' School in Riyadh where he studied religious sciences and modern sciences. He fully memorised the Holy Quran at the age of ten at the hand of the Imam and preacher of the Holy Mosque, Sheikh Abdullah Khayyat. Since his early age, King Salman bin Abdulaziz has shown great interest in science and later received many honorary degrees and academic awards including:
- Honorary Doctorate, Islamic University in Medina.
- Honorary Doctor of Arts, Umm Al Qura University in Makkah.
- Honorary Doctorate, Islamic University of Delhi in recognition of his philanthropic efforts and support to education and excellence as a man of state internationally recognised.
- Honorary Doctorate in Law, University of Waseda of Japan in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the world.
- Kent Medal, Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in recognition of his scientific contributions.
Charity Works
King Salman is well known for his extensive charity works and efforts.
He is the Chairman of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, Honorary Chair of Prince Fahd bin Salman Charitable Society for the Care of Kidney Failure Patients, the Honorary Presidency of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, and many other entities.
Since 1956, King Salman has served as the Chairman of several humanitarian and service committees that have assumed the responsibility of providing relief work at many of the disaster-hit areas worldwide, spanning war-torn and natural disaster-affected areas.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has received many decorations and medals from several countries, including Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Morocco, Palestine, the Philippines, Senegal, the United Nations and Yemen.
Decorations and awards
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz holds King Abdulaziz Scarf of the first layer; the highest medal in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also received many decorations and prizes such as:
- The medal of the 2,000th anniversary of the city of Paris settlement. President Jacques Chirac awarded him the medal in Paris in 1985.
- The medal of intellectual competence which King Hassan II of Morocco awarded him in Casablanca in 1989.
- The award for the Society for the Relief of Disabled Children in the Kingdom for Human Service.
- The Bosnia and Herzegovina Golden Medal for his support and efforts to liberate Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- The Bosnian Medal of Islamic Giving, First Class, in recognition of his efforts and support to the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- The United Nations Trophy for reducing the impact of poverty in the world.
- The Order of the Star of Jerusalem in recognition of his exceptional sacrifice and courage in supporting the Palestinian people.
- The Order of Sikatuna, the highest award in the Philippines for his active contribution to humanitarian activities and support to charities, his efforts to promote and improve the concept of Islamic culture, his limitless support to the Filipino workers in the Kingdom and his friendship with the Philippines.
- The Baden-Powell Scout Fellowship awarded by His Majesty the King of Sweden Carl Gustav XVI.
- The Bahrain Award for Humanitarian Action for GCC countries.
- The Special International Olympic Award for the Middle East and North Africa; one of the highest awards, in recognition of his efforts and support to the disabled in the Kingdom and his promotion of scientific research in the field of disability
