The long-awaited inauguration of the first IT complex of SmartCity Kochi, a special IT economic zone promoted by the Dubai-based Tecom group in joint partnership with the Kerala government, will be held between December 10 and 20 this year.
Talking to reporters after a meeting of the board of directors of SmartCity (Kochi) Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd at Cochin on Saturday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the final date will be decided mutually by SmartCity, Tecomand the state government.
The chief minister said that the first phase 650, 000sqft complex will provide jobs to 6,000 persons. Fifteen companies have so far shown interest in starting operations in SmartCity Kochi.
The foundation stone for the second phase, in which 475,000sqft built up space will be created by the parent company along with co-developers will also be laid on the occasion, Chandy said. The entire project consisting of 8.8 million sq ft of built-up space will be completed by 2030.
Chandy, who visited the construction site along with IT Minister P K Kunhalikutty, Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson, Smart City Dubai CEO Jaber Bin Hafiz and SmartCity Kochi CEO Baju George, said that the state government had resolved all pending issues regarding the project area. Inadequate road connectivity to the project site was another major concern.
