Veteran Telugu playback singer V Ramakrishna passed away at his Venkatagiri Hills residence in Hyderabad late Wednesday night after battling with cancer for quite some time. He was 68.
"He passed away late last night at his Venkatagiri Hills residence," family source said. Ramakrishna is survived by wife Jyothi, son Sai Kiran, a popular Telugu actor and daughter Lekha. The popular singer had been undergoing treatment for cancer for some time now.
The veteran singer, born in 1947, has nearly 5,000 songs to his credit, having lent his voice to several leading actors including the legendary late N T Rama Rao and late Akineni Nageshwara Rao in a career spanning over four decades covering over 200 films.
Nephew of popular playback singer P Susheela, Ramakrishna began his career as a singer at a very young age on the popular show "Yuva Vani" on All India Radio. His idol was the legendary singer Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao, whom he literally worshipped. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, in a condolence message, said Ramakrishna had won the hearts of thousands of people with his melodious songs.
