There was no untoward incident since Tuesday morning, a police official said, adding that 17 people were arrested for the violence that broke out late Monday in Kulsumpura area of the city.
The violence, which broke out after unidentified people set ablaze religiously significant flags, resulted in 10 people, including three policemen, being injured. Five shops were also set ablaze. An assistant commissioner of police was among those injured.
People gathered on streets in Kulsumpura locality and indulged in stone pelting. Thereafter, tension spread to Sabzimandi, Dhoolpet, Mangalhat, Ziaguda, Jhirra, Karwan and other adjoining localities.
Police contingents were rushed to the area to bring the situation under control.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who is on a visit to Medak district, reviewed the situ ation over phone with Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and Director General of Police Dinesh Reddy.
The home minister said the government would deal firmly with those trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the city. She said the police were taking all steps to maintain law and order.
There was tension near the police commissioner’s office at Basheerbagh in the heart of the city when leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and other organisations staged a noisy protest, demanding action against those involved in the violence.
