A comedy of errors ensued on Twitter after people confused Nelson Mandela with Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman started to trend on Twitter after people confused him with Nelson Mandela and shared a photo of him instead of the anti-apartied hero when paying their online condolences.

The actor became a hot topic after people made pains to set the naïve tweeters right. Morgan Freeman played Nelson Mandela in the film Invictus.

“These Americans do realise that Morgan Freeman is not Nelson Mandela?”one tweeted.

“RIP Morgan Freeman sorry I mean Nelson Mandela” @brocaj said.

It did not take long for prankster to get in on the confusion, one posing as Paris Hilton posting the erroneous picture and confusing the Nelson Mandela with Martin Luther King.

The other posed as Morgan Freeman himself.

@FreemanVerified tweeted: “I’m still alive…Please stop confusing me with #NelsonMandela Thank you.”

Morgan Freeman spoke to media about the late Nelson Mandela last week, praising his commitment to peace and reconciliation.
