MUSCAT - Two persons including one GCC national died and many were stranded in rains that have been lashing different parts of Oman since Saturday. The weather is expected to stabilise in a couple of days.

According to Royal Oman Police (ROP) sources, the deaths took place when some cars got washed away at Wadi Qmaira in the Wilayat of Dhank, in A’Dhahirah region which borders the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
The rains also left many people stranded as flooding wadis caught people unawares the ROP sources said. In the Sharqiyah region’s Wilayat of Dima W’attayeen, two people from the same family went missing when their car was washed away in Wadi Mahlaah. In the Batinah region’s Wilayat of Wadi al Maawil, 18 tourists, including 15 Europeans, had to take refuge in the mountains when they got stranded by flooding wadis as they explored Wadi al Abyadh area.
In the Dakhiliyah region, three people got stranded in Wadi Fanja, six others in Wadi al Ma’aidan, two in Wadi Saifam in the Wilayat of Bahla and four in Wadi Farq in the Wilayat of Nizwa. All were rescued by the ROP, assisted by citizens.
