A video showing a Zomato delivery man eating and then repacking customer's food before delivering it went viral and drew flak on social media.
The food delivery and restaurant reservation platform Zomato was surrounded by controversy after the clip left several people disgusted.
In the two-minute video, the delivery person is seen sitting on a two-wheeler and eating some food. He eats a few spoons from the pack before repacking it and putting it back in the delivery box. However, he doesn't stop there and pulls out another packed box and starts to eat from it as well. He calmly reseals the entire package before going off to deliver it to the customer, reports Hindustan Times.
The internet bombarded Zomato with furious comments after the video went viral in a few hours. Former Bollywood actress, Namrata Shirodkar, reposted the video on Instagram and criticized the popular food delivery app. She wrote along with the video: 'It's really shocking how these reputed food delivery companies are functioning. People order food online expecting basic hygiene and this is how it is delivered? I am definitely not gonna encourage my kids to order food online, I suggest even you guys don't!'
The uproar on social media led Zomato to release a statement, acknowledging the incident and calling it "a human error in judgment". The delivery app confirmed in a post that the incident took place in Madurai and added that they have removed the delivery person from their platform.
"We take this very seriously and will soon introduce tamper-proof tapes, and other precautionary measures to ensure we add an extra layer of safeguard against such behavior," said Zomato in the statement.
