India politician Shashi Tharoor, a member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram and an author of several books, spelt out the golden rule for improving one's vocabulary.

He did so while addressing students at an event in India. It came as his reply to a student who asked Tharoor to give him a new word in view of his reputation as a "fount of exotic vocabulary".
"I'll give you a very simple and a very old word-read," Tharoor said to an applause.
He elaborated on how reading had improved his vocabulary by explaining how as an asthmatic child books were his escape as well as his education, and the fact that he read above his age and read anything that he could get his hands on.
Famous for using unique and at times bizarre words in his tweets, Tharoor found himself in a soup over a tweet where he wrongly spelled Indira Gandhi as "India Gandhi" in an old photo-leaving Tweeple baffled.
Trying to take a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after his successful "Howdy Modi!" event in Houston earlier this year, Tharoor made the spelling error, along with mentioning that the photo was taken in the US while it was taken in Moscow.
