At least 35 people were reported dead during multiple acts of violence in Paris including shootings in a Paris restaurant and explosions near the country's main sports stadium.

President François Hollande was evacuated from the stadium after the explosions, which occurred during a France-Germany soccer match. Hollande is meeting with top security officials in the Interior Ministry, AP reported.

The French president said military was being deployed around Paris after unprecedented attacks and that he will declare state of emergency and close borders.

Police had reported shootouts in at least two restaurants in Paris. Hostages were also taken at Le Bataclan concert hall in Paris, AFP said.

Separately, two explosions took place near the Stade de France stadium.

A Paris police official said there were at least 100 hostages in a Paris theater following shooting and explosions at two cites in the city.

Multiple officials, including one medical official, put the number of dead at between 35 to 40 people.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to be publicly named according to police policy.

Too early to know what was happening: US

Former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff says it is too early to know exactly what was happening in Paris.

Social media posts from purported Daesh supporters could indicate that "there was a group waiting for this, but it could be a group watching," Chertoff said in an interview with MSNBC Friday night.

"I don't think we can say this proves anything, but again it supports the idea that it's terrorism," Chertoff said.
