Huge plumes of smoke can be seen in a video from Makkah, which has gone viral, showing a hotel completely engulfed in flames. Multiple photos and videos of the huge fire have been posted online.
Authorities say they have been able to put out most of the fire from the outside, but now have to comb the hotel from the inside to make sure all of the flames have been extinguished and to find the source of the blaze, reports Al-Madina.
Firefighters are reportedly trying to extinguish the fire in the building, which has been already abandoned.
Civil defence firefighting units were striving to contain the blaze and ensure it doesn't spread to other buildings in the area, reported local Arabic daily Okaz.
According to local news, Makkah Red Crescent official spokesman Abdulaziz Baduman said the fire gutted the entire building leading to heavy material losses. No casualties were reported though.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Thick plumes of smoke can be seen in the footage.
