It’s a sad day for animal lovers as the world's oldest female panda in captivity passed away at the age of 38 years and four months at a Chinese Zoo.
Xin Xing was born in 1982 and has been living in Chongqing Zoo in China since she was just one year old. She spent the rest of her life in the facility.
Hailed as 'hero mother' for having 153 descendants, she passed away on December 8 due to multiple organ failure, the zoo announced on its social media page.
The panda lived in the zoo for for over 37 years and had offsprings all over the world, according to the zoo’s tweet.
When Xin Xing turned 38 in August this year, Yin Yanqiang, the zoo's panda expert, said: "At 38, Xin Xing has reached the equivalent of about 110 to 130 in human years.
The zoo has also posted a video and photos of Xin Xing's 38th birthday party celebration in the zoo complete with a cake with her favourite fruit. According to zoo official’s Xin Xing’was a foodie and ‘ate a lot’.
A couple of months back, the zoo had announced that Xin Xing was suffering from loss of appetite and tiredness. Following that, the panda had trouble difficulty with breathing and was coughing.
Xin Xing was admitted to hospital for treatment but despite efforts by animal experts she did not survive. A post-mortem done on the panda revealed that Xin Xing had died of multiple organ failure.
The news of the Xin Xing’s death has gone viral and tributes are pouring in for Xin Xing on Twitter from fans all over the world.
