M.A Yusuffali of EMKE group tops the list of Kerala billionaires with a wealth of Rs.17. 5 billion in the Hurun India Kerala Rich list 2015 published on Friday.
There are 16 Keralites in the Hurun India rich list of 296 super rich persons in the country. The list was released by Anas Rahman Junaid, head, Hurun Report India and Antony Jose, Director, Alukkas Group.
Ravi Pillai of RP Group is the second richest Malayali with an asset base of Rs13.9 billion. P N C Menon comes third with Rs11 billion and Sunny Varkey (Rs10 billion) and S Gopalakrishnan (Rs.9.2 billion) are in the fourth and fifth positions. Kitex Garments Sabu M Jacob (Rs2.2 billion), Thomas Mani of Paragon Group with (Rs2.6 billion) and Thomas George Muthoot (Rs1.8 billion) found a place in list.
Hurun Report has published the list of billionaires from India in 2015. Sixteen of the 296 Indians in that list are from Kerala. Among them three people are newcomers: Sabu M. Jacob (Kitex Garments); Thomas Mani (Paragon); and Thomas George Muthoot (Muthoot Fincorp).
For the fourth continuous year, the richest person in India is Mukesh Ambani, with a fortune of Rs 1.6 trillion. He is followed by Dilip Shanghvi (59) of Sun Pharmaceuticals, who retained his 2nd place despite a 2 per cent decline in his wealth. SP Hinduja & Family (81) is the 3rd richest person on the list with a net worth of Rs1.03 trillion The Hinduja family controls a highly diversified empire with interests spanning automotive, oil& gas, banking, IT, power, media, real estate, healthcare & trading with annual revenues in excess of Rs.1.5 trillion. Uday Kotak (Kotak Mahindra) has entered the list of top 10 wealthiest Indians with a fortune of Rs47.6 billion. Meanwhile, Azim Premji dropped from the top five because he gave away 18 per cent of his wealth for social welfare projects.
The youngest person in the list is 28-year-old Ankit Bhati of Ola Cabs with a wealth of Rs2.3 billion. The only woman in the list is Biocon's Kiran Mazumdar with a net worth of Rs6.1 billion.
