Students embark on ‘Journey of Discovery’ campaign

Adec has launched the Journey of Discovery campaign,which aims to encourage the young minds to look at their learning in a different light.

When the 129,000 students attend their first day of classes on Sunday, their ‘Journey of Discovery’ will also begin.

In a creative start to the new academic year, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) has launched the Journey of Discovery campaign, which aims to encourage the young minds to look at their learning in a different light — an exploration of many possibilities for the future.

Where is your journey taking you?

“This (should be) the fundamental question in the minds of our students… The first question they ask themselves as they take their seats in the school bus on their way to school,” said Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Director-General of Adec.

The students should ask the same question once they are seated in their classrooms and as they open their textbooks.

“We hope their answers to that question will lead to their dreams and knowledge on how to achieve those dreams,” Dr Al Qubaisi said, noting the campaign’s objectives of helping students cope with their dreams, national expectations and aspirations.

“We want our students to realise that they are the core of the educational process, and our goal is to provide them with the best opportunities to discover their abilities and fulfil their ambitions through education. Even though the journey begins each day in one of Abu Dhabi’s schools, it may take them all the way to Mars.”

On the first day of classes, each student will have a folder containing campaign messages for parents and students, stickers and notepad where pupils are expected to write down their dreams and aspirations.

As part of the year-long campaign, 100 school buses and walls of some public schools will showcase the campaign slogan. Classrooms will also be decorated and several activities will be carried out throughout the year that will help students identify their strengths and methods of acquiring knowledge.

“The campaign comes in line with the Adec’s keenness to introduce a student-centered learning approach, which supports all our students to reach their full potential in order to contribute to the prosperity of their country,” Dr Al Qubaisi said.

Parents are encouraged to take part in such a discovery journey.

“We invite parents to accompany your children on the first day of school to be with them at the beginning of the journey. The journey that we are embarking with our children today will be a continuous one with varying possibilities and outcome,” Dr Al Qubaisi concluded.
