On Monday, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) said the project will be done in three phases, starting with seven select schools. They include the Al Ameen School, Mubarak Bin Mohammad School, Khalifa A Abu Dhabi School — all in the Capital; Al-Raqiya and Amro Bin Al Aas Schools in Al Ain; and the Al Marfaa and Al Siddique Schools in the Western Region. Phase 2 will include the addition of 50 schools, and phase 3 will see all 265 public schools across the emirate have up and running websites that are linked with the Adec’s main portal by September this year.

Hanan Al Sahlawi, Adec’s strategic communication and media division manager, said the new project is meant to provide schools with the latest technology tools in enhancing communications between the school, parents, students and the community alike.

“The school website is a new communication channel between the school and its surrounding community,” she told Khaleej Times.

“Activities and calendar of events are transparent for parents and for those who want to learn more about the school. It also helps provide information on the school in detail,” she added.

This includes the school history, organisational structure, facilities available, its contact and location, student schedules and extra-curricular activities. And to support the schools, the Adec has organised workshops and staff training on how to enter data and manage the website. Those trained will supervise and implement the projects in their respective schools.

The school website is part of the Adec’s overall plan of enhancing the education system in the emirate electronically.

Last month, the Adec undertook a bold step in archiving student records of both the public and private schools and the adult education centres across the emirate, and linking them under one e-system.

The project started in December 2009 through the Enterprise Student Information System (eSIS), which compiled a comprehensive student database for public schools, and is due for completion this March. Under this, all academic information of each student from the time they started school till they finish will be recorded and stored, and can be easily accessed by them and their parents in future. — olivia@khaleejtimes.com
