Let's face it, we all hate taking supplements. However, it's important that we try and include anti-inflammatory supplements in our diet. The foods that we consume in our daily eating plans can cause inflammation, which, in turn, could translate into bloating, water retention and belly fat.
The vitamins and minerals in anti-inflammatory supplements will not only help you rev up your metabolism, but also help you lose fat. In fact, when coupled with anti-inflammatory foods in your diet, they can actually reduce aches that you might be experiencing in different parts of your body. However, you will need to do it for a month to actually feel the difference.
So here are the five supplements that can do you a world of good.
Vitamin D
It is known to significantly reduce inflammation throughout your body. But remember that Vitamin D needs to be taken with calcium for best results and to promote weight loss. You can get Vitamin D naturally if you spend enough time in the sun. However, if you are dark-skinned, your body may not synthesise the sunlight as well as someone with a lighter skin.
Glutathione
An outstanding anti-inflammatory agent, it has amazing antioxidant properties and also fights free radicals that can damage cells. Natural sources of glutathione include tomatoes, avocados, milk thistle, asparagus and spinach. You could include these in your daily meals or morning smoothies.
Vitamin B
A critical vitamin to keep your metabolism active, Vitamin B has to be on top of your list. It helps metabolise carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Since it is water soluble, you don't need to take it after meals. Should you wish to maximise its effects, take it on an empty stomach. It also has amazing anti-bloating properties.
Personally, I take these supplements every day with soups that are rich in Vitamin B. I do this by adding nutritional yeast to my soups. This, in turn, has led to a significant improvement in my skin, hair and nails apart from boosting my energy levels.
Magnesium
Here is another vital nutrient: in addition to relaxing you and aiding sleep, this fabulous supplement helps improve blood sugar levels and regulates hormones that make you feel hungry. It also stimulates a healthy immune system.
Calcium
Studies have shown that people lacking in calcium tend to gain more weight as compared to those who already have sufficient amounts of it in their bodies. Eating calcium-rich foods like almonds, dark leafy vegetables, yoghurt and beans can reduce inflammation significantly. Make sure you have calcium and Vitamin D together in order to maximise the benefits.
Verdict: In addition to consuming anti-inflammatory foods, take these supplements. You will reduce the risk of tumours, inflammation and aches!
